RESUME OF HOWARD L. HOFFENBERG, ESQ.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE WITH FIRMS

Wilson, Kenna & Borys (Los Angeles,) Litigation Associate

Bob Wilson taught me to be civil and a gentleperson towards opposing counsel in litigation, notwithstanding that an opposing counsel was behaving like a varmint. Commensurately, he taught me to be proportional and reasonable in responding to such an opposing counsel.

Bob gave me the opportunity to do substantial deposition work in large cases.

Bob Wilson taught me that in preparing a case for trial with many documents and extensive witness testimony, I should ask myself does this evidence help, hurt or is it neutral. Further, to separate the chaff from the wheat, throw to the side evidence deemed neutral and do not look back and start second guessing.

Sheldon & Mak, Inc. (Pasadena,) Litigation, Prosecution and Transaction Associate

Jeff Sheldon and Surjit taught me to put meaning into the word FIERCE in litigating and trying a case.

When representing a client on trademarks, I was taught to put in mind an overall strategy for protection of the brands.

Jeff Sheldon taught me that when drafting a set of patent claims to draft a block of claim with an eye toward protecting the particular product a client was likely to sell and a block of claims with an eye toward breadth

Denny Anderson taught me to analyze a patent application forwards, backwards and upside down with eye towards identifying as is reasonable possible weaknesses and as is reasonably possible to redress those weaknesses to enhance sustainability in court.

Surjit Soni suggested having an eye towards licensing when preparing a patent application.

Chapin, Fleming & Winet (Los Angeles,) Litigation Associate

Richard Carter taught me to control fees and expenses and to conduct litigation efficiently.

Park & Sutton, LLP (Los Angeles,) Litigation and Prosecution of Counsel

In the context of litigation, John Park and I confronted and successfully dealt with client competitors who were over zealously asserting their intellectual property to attempt to wrongfully impose a barrier to our client being in the market. We stopped these client competitors in their efforts to increase the value of their business at the expense of our client.

John Park was and is a pastor. Several of us on a routine basis took time out from the legal work to have nondenominational and voluntarily attended spiritual discussions. If you go to Responding to an Office Action in a Patent Case, Part I and Examination Practice in a Patent Case, Part II, you will see the references to Psalm.
